AI-Enhanced Low-Cost EEG for Mental Health Diagnostics
In 2023, at the age of 10, Anisha Marrapu began advocating for children's mental health after witnessing distress in her classmates. Determined to break the silence around mental health issues, she developed a pioneering solution.
Anisha's invention, a low-cost EEG device using AI, aims to revolutionize mental health diagnostics. With nearly a billion people affected by mental health disorders, current diagnostic methods are costly, slow, and often inaccurate. Her innovation provides a more accessible and precise way to diagnose conditions like depression and anxiety, offering valuable insights for personalized treatment.
This affordable approach is viable even in resource-limited settings, enabling continuous data collection outside clinical environments. Anisha's invention promises to enhance global mental health care, improving diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental health disorders.
Inspired by her teacher's battle with breast cancer, Anisha Marrapu set out to revolutionize early diagnosis methods for the disease. Recognizing the urgent need for more effective tools, Anisha focused on a novel approach using menstrual blood biomarkers, specifically Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-alpha).
Her research aimed to establish the feasibility of this non-invasive method for early detection. Anisha developed a sanitary pad that detects cancer through a color change technique, providing instant results without lab analysis. The pad is safe, biodegradable, and offers a convenient, accurate, and timely diagnostic tool.
Anisha's invention promises to transform women's health by enabling proactive and accessible early cancer detection.

Microplastics Removal
Anisha, following her experience witnessing the environmental challenges firsthand, embarked on a mission to tackle plastic pollution. Her project, "Solar-Driven Novel and Sustainable Approach for Efficient Removal of Microplastic and Nano Plastic Particles from Water," aims to utilize sunlight to create bubbles capable of capturing plastic debris in water bodies.
With a prototype already achieving an impressive 87% plastic removal within just 8 minutes of sunlight exposure, Anisha is determined to refine her solution further. Currently, she is in discussions with water filtration organizations to explore avenues for scaling up her innovative approach. Anisha's ultimate goal is to contribute to a cleaner and safer environment for all.
In response to the alarming rates of injuries caused by distracted walking in the US, Anisha developed StepWise, a mobile app aimed at tackling this pervasive issue. StepWise employs sophisticated technology, utilizing the Google Activity API to monitor user activity and the Map API to identify paths and road crossings.
Through rigorous testing, StepWise has demonstrated its efficacy in enhancing pedestrian awareness and reducing accidents by reminding users to stay vigilant every three minutes while walking. The app's impact is substantial, potentially decreasing traffic accidents by 75%, cutting healthcare costs related to pedestrian injuries by 60%, and boosting pedestrian awareness by 98%.
Anisha's commitment to road safety and her innovative solution illustrate technology's capacity to enact positive social change. With StepWise leading the charge, she's forging a path towards safer streets and a brighter future for pedestrians globally.
